MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre

MAC has a varied range of paint pots, which essentially are highly pigmented and very creamy eye shadows. When it comes to eye shadow, I tend to prefer powders, however when I heard that these can also be used as an eye shadow base, I gave them a second thought.

Packaging: A 5g glass tub with a black screw lid on top. I like the look of this packaging however I feel it is a bit wasteful. It’s a bit too big and bulky for the amount of product there is and will definitely take up too much space if you had many of these.

Shade: The one I have is in the shade Soft Ochre – a very natural skin-coloured paint pot that also works perfectly as an eye primer. You could also say that this looks like a concealer tub!

Texture: I was immediately impressed at how smooth and buttery this felt to the touch. It’s very creamy in consistency and highly pigmented, yet blends in effortlessly.

Cost: These sell for about £15.50 from the MAC website. Quite a bit for the amount of product that there is, yet a little goes a very long way with these.

Verdict: I really love this, however I only ever use this as an eye primer due to the colour. With this, my eye make up does not budge – at all. It stays on for hours and looks as vibrant as it did when I first applied it! Great for a long day or night ahead.

As a side note, I have to mention that I do not have oily lids so I’m not quite sure how this would work if I did. Has anyone in this situation tried this?

I’ve also heard amazing things about the eye primer from Urban Decay and would just love to compare the two! Anyone ever try both of these? What are your thoughts?

  1. The Maybelline Color Tattoo shadows work as a base as well. Last year they came out with colors that were dupes for the MAC paint pots in Soft Ochre & Painterly. But for some odd reason they were limited edition. I got the Painterly dupe one.

I’ve tried the Urban Decay eye primer and hated it. It almost ruined my eye lids because I had a bad reaction to it. It made my eyes dry, itchy, and flaky. It persisted even after I stopped using it (which was after the 2nd or 3rd time) and nothing would get rid of it. It finally took ointment from my mom’s dermatologist to finally fix it.

  2. I love the urban decay primer, I actually have a post coming on that early next week 🙂 Haven’t tried these though, but I do own the maybelline color tattoo’s which are similar 🙂
Thanks for the review 😀 xx Anne

      • Actually, the maybelline ones will show up in a separate post next week! Will try to compare the two:)
Quickly: I would say UD really makes things stay in place but the Color Tattoos form a great long lasting base as well 🙂
